Worked in the Library Media Center for 5 hours
Today I was at Brass Community School. Today we had four 3rd grade classes come in for 30 minute lessons each. For these students, I designed a dictionary lesson in which we first reviewed what a dictionary is and is used for and the practiced looking up the two words that were the focus of our lesson, fact and opinion. Once students learned how to locate a word, they were then asked to write the definition and discuss as a class how to choose the best definition for a given word. The rest of the 30 minutes was spent looking for books. In the conclusion of this lesson, which we will do next week, students will review the meaning of the words and then practice identifying facts and opinions and then writing their own fact and opinion.
In addition to these classes, we had two 1st grade classes who came in the library for story time and book checkout and also a 4th grade who came in and did the encyclopedia activity that the other 4th grade classes did on Tuesday.
