Worked in the Library Media Center for 5 hours
Today I was at Whittier Elementary School and we had two 4th grade classes, who had begun the dictionary lesson on the words persuade, inform, and entertain the previous week. Today, we reviewed the meaning of each and then discussed possible examples. Next, using newspapers and magazines, students looked for and then cut out examples to represent each and then taped them to their worksheet. Finally, we discussed these examples as students presented what they had found.
In addition to the 4th grade, we had one 3rd grade, which finished the fact versus opinion activity that we had started last week. First we reviewed the meaning of each word. Then we had some practice with some sentences that were either facts or opinions and students had to identify them as such. Finally, students wrote their own fact and opinion and shared them with the class.
We also had two kindergarten and one 1st grade come in today and all of these groups had story time and then picked out books.
