Worked in the Library Media Center for 5 hours

Today I was at Brass Community School. Today we had three 4th grade classes come into the library and each class began the dictionary lesson that I did at Whittier last Wednesday. To review, for the first part of the lesson, we first discussed what a dictionary is and how it is used. We then practiced using the dictionary to look up a word that someone in the class suggested. Next, we had a brief discussion and speculated what the words persuade, inform, and entertain meant. Finally, students used the dictionaries to look up and write out the definitions to each word. We will conclude this lesson next Tuesday.

In addition to the 4th grade classes, we had one 2nd grade class come into the library. With the 2nd graders, we did the dictionary lesson that we did at Whittier yesterday, which again was led by Mrs. Skold. This lesson focused on examining all of the information contained in the dictionary by breaking down all that each entry would include. Finally, we also had two 1st grade classes and two kindergarten classes, both of which were read stories and then given time to check out books.
